Abstract/Summary

Around 40 per cent of the artefacts recorded on the PAS database are of Roman date and the principle aim of this book is to assess the contribution that this resource can make to our understanding of Roman Britain. Bringing together vast quantities of seemingly random finds scattered across the English and Welsh countryside, Tom Brindle brings order to this data by showing how it can be used to indicate the presence of 240 previously unknown Roman sites. These sites are presented within a series of regional case studies which discuss important new sites as well as statistics that contribute significantly to the understanding of the density of settlement in rural Roman Britian. Contains a regional case study for Northamptonshire
