Abstract/Summary

MOLA was commissioned by to undertake a Level 2 photographic survey of Baptist Church, Cogenhoe ahead of the conversion of the building to a residential dwelling. The Church dates to 1910, replacing an earlier Baptist Chapel on nearby Church Lane. The Church was deconsecrated in 2007 and has been disused since. The building was found to be in good condition, retaining a range of ecclesiastical furnishing such as an organ, pulpit, baptismal pool and a full complement of pews. The Art Nouveau/ Mackintosh style which was fashionable in the early 20th century is expressed in the design of the church windows and their decorative embellishments. The organ was a later addition to the original church and was housed in a brick extension on the west side of the church. A range of modern brick extensions housing a kitchen, WC and store rooms were located north of the original Church.
