Abstract/Summary

MOLA Northampton conducted an archaeological desk-based heritage assessment of land at Middlemore Site 7, Daventry, Northamptonshire. No designated heritage assets are present within the site, although Middlemore Farmhouse and farm buildings adjoining the farmhouse to the north of the site are both Grade II Listed Buildings. There is a well-documented Roman presence in the area, with a farmstead at Middlemore Farm. However, it is not thought that the remains would extend as far south as Site 7. Medieval ridge and furrow has been observed on the site through aerial photography and geophysical survey has identified remains immediately to the north-west on Site 8W and 9. However, only faint traces were observed during a subsequent watching brief. The HER notes the location of a number of spotfinds of Roman to medieval date, the locations of which are uncertain
