Abstract/Summary
A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken at Station Road Bridge, Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire. The bridge is a Scheduled Monument and Grade I listed building and was probably constructed by Peterborough Abbey during the 14th century, although subsequently modified and repaired during the 17th, 18th and 20th centuries. Scheduled Monument Consent had been granted for infrastructure development works on the bridge, subject to various conditions including the undertaking of archaeological supervision and monitoring of groundworks and recording. Some of the bridge structure was revealed in the foot of the cable trench but not enough to add to existing knowledge. No damage occurred during the work and no artefacts were retrieved.
