Abstract/Summary

MOLA Northampton conducted an archaeological desk-based assessment of King’s Cliffe Primary School, Northamptonshire. There is little evidence for the settlement of the site before the Middle School was constructed. The site occupies an area of on the crest of a hill to the north of the historic core of King’s Cliffe. The Roman road Maragary route 571 terminates to the north-east of the site and numerous discoveries of Roman remains have been made locally. A royal hunting lodge stood near the churchyard and a deer park connected to it was situated to the east of the village. A fire in 1462 destroyed the hunting lodge and much of King’s Cliffe.
