Abstract/Summary

Between September 2014 and June 2015 MOLA Northampton carried out archaeological mitigation work on land north of Brick Kiln Lane, West End, Raunds, Northamptonshire. This document provides a brief overview of the site as a postexcavation assessment. A series of ditches of early to middle Iron Age date superseded by a rectangular enclosure dating to the Late Iron Age were identified. Three possible ring ditches respecting the position of the enclosure were also identified. There was evidence for small scale industrial activity with at least two oven/hearth features and a quantity of metal working debris were also present. During the post-medieval period a substantial curvilinear ditch, open on the western side was present. It is possible that this may be the remains of a windmill.
