Abstract/Summary
The purpose of this document is to place in context that part of the former designed landscape which lies to the south of Finedon Hall, Northamptonshire in an area which is currently separately owned from the former mansion house. It specifically relates to those parts which may be immediately affected by a proposed development of a residential property (NGR: SP 9115 7185; Fig 1). These include a water feature and associated stone grotto or rockery and a circular raised area planted with a circuit of yew trees known as the yew circle. None are statutorily Listed. In order to understand the history of the site a desk-based study has been undertaken of documents and published works held locally (within the Northamptonshire Record Office, hereafter NRO, and the Northampton Central Library Local Studies, together with the Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record [HER]). A site visit examined the location of the proposed new building within its immediate and wider setting with specific reference to the surviving garden features. For the purposes of this report, the features are considered as Undesignated Heritage Assets.
