Abstract/Summary

In July 2017 a programme of archaeological monitoring was undertaken on the construction of a timber-framed, open-sided ‘barn’ in the rear garden of Beechwood House, Church Lane, Evenley, Northants. The site is within the historic core of the village, adjacent to a known medieval moat, and had the potential to contain buried heritage assets of medieval or later date. The observations, undertaken during the excavation of five postholes for the new building, were limited and did not reveal any buried heritage assets or artefacts, being dug into modern deposits and redeposited soils. It is therefore unlikely that the development has had any impact on buried heritage assets.
