Abstract/Summary

A geophysical survey by magnetometry was undertaken by Allen Archaeology Limited for Ecus Limited on a 0.9 ha area of land at Church Piece, Stanion, Northamptonshire. The site is located to the east side of the village and east of Willow Lane, centred on NGR SP 9165 8683, and was overgrown pasture at the time of the survey. There is evidence for Roman, Anglo-Saxon and medieval activity in the vicinity of the site, with a major Roman road, Gartree Street, recorded approximately 250m to the south. The survey identified a positive linear anomaly in the northern half of the site and two positive linears in the southwest corner of the proposed development area which may be either former ditches or modern services/drainage. There are also a number of possible faint positive anomalies within the southern half of the site which may relate to the former use of the site as allotments
