Abstract/Summary

MOLA carried out archaeological observation and recording during investigations into a buried underground structure at the late 19th century Willima Knibb centre, Montagu Road, Kettering. The structure, which was identified as a Second World War air raid shelter, comprised a grid of interconnected tunnels, lined and ceiled with pre-cast concrete slabs set into a pre-cast concrete frame. Due to safety concerns the structure was investigated via a series of test holes and with a remotely operated vehicle with on-board camera.
