Abstract/Summary

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) carried out an open area archaeological excavation on land south of Towcester Road, Old Stratford. The excavation comprised a 1st century BC to 1st century AD Iron Age landscape, containing a series of linear field boundary ditches and a linear route way. Small occupation foci were associated with field system(s) that included ring ditches and a number of discrete postholes and pits indicative of small farmsteads. These settlements were linked by the route way, defined by parallel ditches. The tight dating of the sites was based on a relatively large assemblage of diagnostic Iron Age pottery. Metalworking evidence included small fragments of copper casting crucibles
