Abstract/Summary

In February 2018, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land at Home Farm Business Park, Church Way, Whittlebury. The evaluation comprised the excavation of four trenches measuring 10m long by 1.8m wide. An Iron Age hillfort has been identified through aerial photographic analysis, geophysical survey, test pitting and excavation undertaken in the area to the immediate south of the site and the projected alignment of the hillfort ditch was thought to cross the south-east corner of the site. The purpose of the evaluation was to confirm the presence or absence of archaeological remains within the site. Despite the location of the site to the immediate north of an Iron Age hillfort and the potential for continuation of the hillfort ditch or associated remains with the site no features or deposits of archaeological interest were observed and no artefacts were recovered.
