Abstract/Summary

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are in the process of demolishing the buildings at Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) Wellingborough with the intention of building a more modern facility. MOLA Northampton was commissioned by the MoJ principal contractor Kier Eastern to undertake an archaeological observation, recording, analysis and publication of the site following the removal of the foundations. It became apparent that the extensive 20th century foundations had penetrated to depth greater than the archaeological horizon. As a consequence no archaeological features or overburden comprising topsoil or subsoil deposits survived.
