Abstract/Summary
MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned by Neil Tanner of Neil Tanner Associates on behalf of their client Seima Construction Ltd to undertake a programme of historic building recording at Buttermilk Hall Farm, Blisworth, Northamptonshire, prior to the conversion of a barn and stables to a residential dwelling. The origin of the farm lies in the mid 18th century; by the early 19th century, maps show an L-shaped plan comprising the threshing barn, stables and a cowshed connecting the barns and farm house. The Ordnance Survey Map of 1885 depict the development of the farm into an F-shaped plan with the addition of an open animal shelter. Over the next century only small alterations had been made, which included the addition of a pigsty, the enclosing of the open animal shelter, renewal of the roofs and replacement of the doors and windows.
