Abstract/Summary

Between June and September 2018 MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology), was commissioned by Stoneblue Projects Ltd, to undertake a programme of archaeological observation, investigation, recording, analysis and publication on land at The Falcon Hotel, Castle Ashby, Northamptonshire. These works were part of a larger project which focussed on historic analysis of the Falcon Hotel and the impact of the present development on the existing heritage assets within Castle Ashby. The current works were limited to the observation of the groundworks related to construction of the new extensions located to the north-west and the north–east of the existing building. During the observation no archaeological features, surfaces or finds were present, probably as the result of deeply disturbed upper layers related to earlier demolition activity. It was noted that the surface of the developed plot contained a large amount of debris, modern pipes and services still in working order and it probably largely influenced the degree of disturbance.
