Abstract/Summary

MOLA was commissioned to undertake a geophysical survey and trial trench evaluation on the line of a proposed new access route to HMP Wellingborough. These works demonstrated the presence of seven ditches, two pits and eight furrows. Dateable material found in the evaluation indicates that part of a middle to late Iron Age settlement, comprised of a roundhouse and a boundary ditch, lay across the eastern area. These likely relate to similar features identified in previous work to the south of the development area. Additionally, in the western area of the site, evidence of medieval ridge and furrow and a modern boundary ditch, were also identified.
