Abstract/Summary

MOLA was commissioned by Haynes and Sons to undertake a programme of archaeological observation, investigation, recording, analysis and publication on a development site at Dairy Farm, Butcher's Lane, Pytchley. A small number of ditches dated to the 3rd/4th centuries AD may define part of a Roman field system. A small number of pits and postholes are likely to also date to this period. A single inhumation, buried in a prone position, was discovered cut into the upper fill of one of the Roman ditches. The burial has been dated to the mid-7th-early 8th centuries AD and may relate to other early medieval burials previously excavated in the vicinity.
