Abstract/Summary

St Andrew's parishioners will have noticed the trap door put into the vestry ceiling. The truth can now be revealed. During their investigations the builders made a stunning find. Because of its value it has not been possible to tell anyone until it had been transferred to the diocesan vaults at Peterborough for safe keeping. No-one knew the secret under that leaking roof! On removing the lead from the roof a cache of 17th century coins together with some Charles I gold jewellery were found, presumably buried out of reach of the encroaching Parliamentarian troops. "I found this small package wrapped in a bit of old oil cloth. When I opened it , I couldn't believe my eyes!" said the builder. Maurice will be very happy to tell you about the find and tell you where and when you can see them on display.
