Abstract/Summary
A geophysical (magnetometer) survey, was undertaken on approximately 1.1 hectares of land at Towcester Racecourse, Towcester. Agricultural activity in the form of ridge and furrow cultivation has been identified. Geological responses have been detected. Positive magnetic responses have been identified as a service pipe and areas of magnetic disturbance. Negative magnetic trends have been revealed which may correspond with topographical features, but they are likely to be associated with modern drainage trenches. Anomalies of a possible archaeological nature have been identified within the dataset, although later activity has obscured any clear pattern. Based on the results of the geophysical survey, the archaeological potential is considered to be moderate to low.
