Abstract/Summary

In November 2019 an archaeological investigation was carried out by Souterrain during groundwork for a new dwelling on a plot of land (c. 487 sq. m) known as 30 Horton’s Lane, Thrapston, Northamptonshire. Based on previous archaeological discoveries c. 15 m to the west, the site was considered to have potential for buried remains of Romano-British and medieval date. The new house footprint (c. 148 sq. m), for the most part, occupied the footprint of a 19th to late 20th century dwelling, which was demolished prior to the investigation. The investigation revealed that almost half of the new building footprint had suffered deep disturbance. There were no archaeological remains present earlier than domestic waste pits dug in the mid 19th century.
