Abstract/Summary

In May 2020 an archaeological investigation was carried out by Souterrain during groundworks for a new dwelling on a plot of land (c450 sqm) adjacent to No 39 Manor Road, Earls Barton, Northamptonshire, where the existing building appears to have been erected shortly after 1958. The investigation was prompted by the knowledge of previous discoveries in the environs of the Application Site. In particular, there was reasonable potential for archaeology pertaining to Romano-British rural settlement, extensive remains of such having been made to the northeast and southwest of the site. There were, however, no archaeological features by the groundwork. Neither were there any finds of archaeological interest. The stratigraphy was indicative of a former building site, the ground having been severly truncated during construction activities in the late 1950s. The 'negative' aspect of the archaeological evidence does not therefore preclude the possibility of former existence.
