Abstract/Summary

This document is a fieldwork report for an archaeological observation, investigation, recording analysis and publication of works, carried out by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) at 4 Home Farm Close, East Farndon, Northamptonshire, LE16 9SS in advance of the construction of two small extensions to the northern elevation of the property. The development site consists of a partly paved, partly grassed area adjacent to the northern elevation of the house. To the north-east of the site are earthworks of the shrunken medieval village and holloway (Scheduled Monument NMO30076). Also nearby are prehistoric settlement remains and a possible Romano-British Settlement. The foundations for the extensions were excavated under constant supervision by an archaeologist. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered. The land had been heavily disturbed by the building of the present house and service trenches and the overburden contained building rubble including brick and concrete and evidence of previous modern drainage systems including pea gravel, blue-grey clay and ceramic drain remains. The natural substratum was reached at a depth of 0.90m. The archive for the site will be deposited with Northamptonshire ARC with the Event number: ENN109495.
