Abstract/Summary

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned by Hinton Cook Architects on behalf of Barbara Stretton, to undertake an archaeological trial trench evaluation at Manor House Farm, 2 High Street, Astcote, Northamptonshire. Four trenches were excavated on land west off the High Street. Evidence for remodelling of the land was present in one of the trenches, which indicated that there may originally have been a pronounced terrace towards the west end of the plot that has been levelled and smoothed to a gentle slope by the deposition of imported soils and limestone rubble. Other intrusive activity was limited to isolated deposition of modern building materials, such as bricks and slate tiles. Examination of the topsoil and subsoil overburden revealed infrequent sherds of Medieval pottery.
