Abstract/Summary
A single archaeological evaluation trench was excavated in advance of a proposed building extension to the Wheatsheaf Public House, Crick. The planned extension will incorporate the western part of the pub car park. By means of assessing the concentration of archaeological remains, a single L-shaped trench within the proposed building zone was excavated. The evaluation possessed the ability to identify evidence of medieval settlement remains which could be compromised by the development. The trench also had the opportunity to elucidate upon the degree of disturbance to archaeological deposits caused by now demolished terraced buildings which lined Church Street. The trench revealed that the construction of the row of cottages which lined Church Street in the 19th and 20th centuries truncated and damaged archaeological remains which existed in the footprint of the development. Medieval features identified towards the north-eastern extent of the trench, beyond the limits of the cottages, were identified and were considered as been relatively well preserved. Pottery recovered from the features suggests a 15th century use
