Abstract/Summary

The trial trench evaluation comprised five trenches, three in the northern area and two in the southern area. The five trenches found no archaeological finds or features and therefore the results of the evaluation were negative. This may be due to modern ploughing on the Site which may have truncated archaeological features. In addition, this area was peripheral during the medieval and post-medieval period as it is located 1.6km north-east of the nearest settlement of Halse which is a shrunken medieval settlement. The site had been the subject of geophysical survey, but that this was rendered ineffective by the use of green manure on the field which contained a high amount of ferric objects. Trial trenching was undertaken to confirm the presence/absence of archaeological remains in advance of construction.
