Abstract/Summary

The Jessop Consultancy, on behalf of Granary Developments Limited commissioned Allen Archaeology Limited to undertake an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching as a condition of planning consent for a residential development at Glebe Farm, Church Street, Weldon, Northamptonshire. The site lies in an area of archaeological interest, with significant evidence for prehistoric and Roman activity in the vicinity of the site. Evidence for Saxon and medieval iron working has also been recorded in the area. The evaluation trenching comprised 3no 20m x 1.6m trenches, 4no 15m x 1.6m trenches and 1no 30m x 1.6m trench. The trial trenching demonstrated that there were no archaeologically significant deposits or features within the proposed development area. The only features identified were associated with drainage and services for agricultural buildings.
