Abstract/Summary

Archaeological monitoring found no archaeological features on this site adjacent to Watling Street, and two phases of systematic metal-detecting led to the recovery of only two coins, their issues 1500 years apart. It is concluded that there is no evidece of any occupation on this site at any time, and that 19th-century antiquarian reports which have been thought to allude to the immediate locale do not relate to this site. They should continue to be used with caution.
