Abstract/Summary
The Archaeology Company undertook an archaeological building investigation at Woodford Hill House, Woodford Hill Woodford Halse, Northamptonshire, NN11 3SA, on the 9th of February 2021. The work was commissioned by Crow Archaeology Ltd. Woodford Hill House is set in the crux of the Preston Capes Road, the house has a traditional rectangular ground plan and is constructed with two double pitch roofs running approximately northwest/southeast divided by a deep central valley. A brick built out building located to the south east of the main house appears to have been incorporated into the footprint of the main house through later extensions. The recording of Woodford Hill House before the proposed developments has provided an opportunity to examine the physical evidence for the history of a Northamptonshire dwelling over at least two centuries. The historic building survey has identified at least five phases of remodelling and expansion, although the majority of these are relatively modern and given the limited access to examine the internal fabric of the dwelling further examination during any modernisation could identify further phases of internal development that could advance the historic development of the building.
