Abstract/Summary
Wardell Armstrong LLP was commissioned by DC Construction Ltd to undertake archaeological observation, investigation and recording on land at 21-23 Church View Road, Desborough, Kettering. The Historic Environment Record indicated there was a potential for, as of yet, unknown archaeological assets, with prehistoric to medieval activity recorded within the vicinity. As such, when planning permission was granted in July 2020 an archaeological condition was included for the monitoring of all groundworks associated with construction on this Site. Archaeological observation, investigation and recording was undertaken from the 29th July to 6th August 2020. No archaeological deposits or features were recorded, the topsoil was also sterile of any residual archaeological material. Outside of the Site, but provided here for reference, to the immediate east of the Site a potential Neolithic axe head was historically found in the topsoil of the neighbouring garden by the resident, this would lie on an elevated ridge of the clay natural substrate noted during these Site works, creating a potential boundary for the prehistoric activity in the area.
