Abstract/Summary

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned by Breedon Southern Ltd to undertake a magnetometer survey of 19ha of land at Earls Barton Spinney Quarry, Earls Barton, Northamptonshire. The survey identified extensive archaeological remains, focused largely in the northern and central parts of the survey area. These included possible prehistoric ring ditches, a pit alignment of probable early Iron Age date, enclosures and roundhouses of probable Iron Age or Roman date and some possible Iron Age or Roman field system ditches. Later remains include medieval to early post-medieval ridge and furrow and a post-medieval or modern brick culvert were also detected.
