Abstract/Summary

In October 2014 Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned by Ed Smith of Box-It (South Midlands) to undertake an archaeological strip, map and sample investigation on land to the east of Cottage Farm, Roade, Northamptonshire. The monitoring was carried out during ground-works relating to the proposed construction of a new document storage building and associated works to the access track, loading and car park areas. The stratigraphic sequence of the excavated areas consisted of a single layer of topsoil, with an overall thickness of 300 to 350mm, which in turn overlay the natural sub-stratum, consisting of hard clay with occasional gravel flint. The results of the archaeological strip, map and sample investigation related to the ground-works at Cottage Farm, Roade, Northamptonshire, did not reveal any archaeological features, deposits or artefacts which would be impacted upon the proposed development.
