Abstract/Summary

In May 2021 KDK Archaeology carried out a Historic Building Recording of Forceleap Farm, Newbottle in order to fulfil a planning condition for the conversion of the buildings on the site. The farmhouse, which was built by the Cartwright family who purchased the Newbottle Estate in 1795, has a datestone of 1820 and the majority of the impacted buildings are also of early 19th century date. In the 20th century, the ngine room of the threshing barn was demolished and the north-south orientated stable building to the west was converted into two office rooms, a two-storey flat and a butchery. The latest alterations were made to the building forming the east range of the central farmyard, which has been extensively repaired with a direct access being formed between the farmyard and the adjacent field.
