Abstract/Summary

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned by Higham Ferrers Town Council to conduct a watching brief on land at Castle Fields, Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire during the installation of children’s play equipment. No significant archaeological features or deposits were encountered, but four modern deposits were revealed. The deepest deposit comprised 20th century allotment soils which was in turn overlaid by levelling layers. All deposits contained a mixture of 18th- 20th century pottery, brick and tile, in addition to modern metal and glass debris. Two pieces of medieval roof tile were also present. A topsoil and turf layer sealed all the deposits.
