Abstract/Summary
Bell Plantation Garden Centre commissioned Allen Archaeology Limited to carry out a programme of archaeological observation, investigation and recording as a condition of planning consent for the installation of a ground source heat pump at Unit 26-28, The Bell Plantation, Watling Street, Towcester, Northamptonshire. The site lies within an area of archaeological interest, 100m to the east of Watling Street and to the north of Towcester. While prehistoric activity is limited, Roman activity is well represented in the surrounding areas. The excavation revealed Roman activity at the site. The main period of activity appears to be early Roman, with evidence of quarrying, an enclosure ditch, several pits, ditches and human burials and cremations. The scheme of works took place between 7th July and 18th August 2020.
