Abstract/Summary

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned to undertake a trial trench evaluation on land at HMP Wellingborough. In the north-east part of the site, an undated linear feature, a drain and several furrows were found. A possible fragment of medieval roof tile was recovered from one of the furrows. No other artefacts were recovered. The features were overlain by buried topsoil and subsoil, which was present in some parts of the evaluated area but absent in others, probably due to landscaping work for the prison. The uppermost deposit in all trenches was made-ground of varying thickness, deposited across the site to level the ground surface.
