Title | Archaeological Evaluation on land North of Grendon, Northamptonshire, February 2021 |
Author/Originator | Sharrock, P |
Date/Year | 2021 |
SMR Input Date (use for label searches) | 15/03/2022 |
Abstract/Summary
The evaluation works revealed a low density of remains, signifying a small scale of activity on the site during the 12th to 13th centuries, concentrated approximately 70m from the northern edge of an area defined by the HER as relating to the Deserted Medieval Settlement (DMS) of Cotton. The peripheral nature of the remains and the sparse artefactual assemblage indicate that the activities undertaken were more probably industrial than domestic in function. Archaeological features identified include a small hearth and associated wall, in addition to several ditches and remnants of a ridge and furrow cultivation system.
