Abstract/Summary

Avant Homes commissioned Allen Archaeology Limited to undertake an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching on land off Buxton Drive, Desborough, Northamptonshire, as a condition of planning consent for a residential development. An archaeological desk-based assessment was previously prepared for this site summarising the potential for prehistoric and roman archaeology to be negligible and that Anglo-Saxon activity was well represented within Desborough. Medieval activity is represented by surviving ridge and furrow, particularly in the western field of the site. A geophysical survey undertaken in 2022 identified a double-bank on the site extending over 1km to the south. Seven trenches were excavated, five 30m x 1.8m and two 50m x 1.8m, at various locations across the site. The banks and hollow way were identified in Trench 1, but were undated. A single undated northwest – southeast orientated gully was identified in Trench 3.
