Abstract/Summary

This document is an archaeological heritage assessment & rapid building appraisal of The Old Pack Horse, 1 High Street, Yardley Gobion, Northamptonshire (NGR SP 76555 44799), commissioned from Archaeological Building Recording Services (ABRS) by Ms Rebecca Godden in advance of proposed works at the site. This heritage assessment has confirmed that the proposed development area may contain archaeological remains relating to the medieval occupation of the village. Cartographic sources indicate that the proposed development area has remained undeveloped throughout the modern era. The standing buildings are located within the curtilage of the Grade II listed Old Pack Horse Inn. The proposed works have been sympathetically designed to minimise the impact upon these designated heritage assets, there will be very limited loss of historic fabric and limited alteration to the current/historic plan-form, this will not result in substantial harm to the buildings. A programme of historic building investigation and recording will mitigate the impact. The proposed development area is located within the Yardley Gobion Conservation Area. The proposed works have been sympathetically designed and located within the existing residential curtilage, there will, therefore be no impact upon the Conservation Area.
