Abstract/Summary

An archaeological investigation (strip, plan and sample) was carried out at the former Eagle Public House, on the corner of Queensway and Olympic Way, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire (SP 87546 68208) by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) between 31 July and 1 August, 2012. Work was carried out on behalf of Hallam Contracts Ltd. in advance of construction of a new medieval centre and parking. The investigation involved the supervision and inspection of overburden removal and other groundworks in advance of the commencement of the development to determine the presence or absence of any archaeological remains. The results of the investigation were negative. The ground had been extensively terraced and truncated, presumably when the area was developed between the 1960s and 1990s. The site archive will be held by ULAS.
