Abstract/Summary

A desk-based study was undertaken prior to the proposed redevelopment of the site. There were no known records of any archaeological remains from the study site itself. Historic map evidence suggested that late medieval tenements occupied the area adjacent to the site. Later maps showed that factory buildings and a workhouse had been built on the site by the 18th century. The printworks of the Kettering Evening Telegraph were constructed in the early 20th century and, though now redundant, still dominated the western half of the study area. Evidence of post-medieval cellarage was encountered but no archaeological deposits were observed
