Abstract/Summary

In September 2022, Archaeology Wales conducted a geophysical survey on the remains of a Roman villa situated on land near Nobottle, Northamptonshire, centred on NGR SP 68197 63308. A ground resistivity survey and a ground penetrating radar survey were successfully undertaken across the site, with two small areas targeted by the works. Area 1 was located around an evaluation trench excavated in June 2022, where part of the villa structure was revealed. Results in this area showed further potential wall lines relating to the Roman villa located to the south and east of the trench. The survey results suggest the villa may have been a simple corridor style building. A further small rectangular structure was evident to the south of the villa building; however, it is unclear if this is related to the villa. The second survey area was located to the south-east of the villa and targeted potential industrial anomalies recorded by a previous gradiometer survey. A ground resistance survey across this area found nothing of archaeological significance.
