Type Report
Title DIRFT south-east: Geophysical survey
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2003

Abstract/Summary

The detailed survey recorded numerous pit-type anomalies in the northern field. Their magnitude indicated significant magnetic enhancement of the soils such as would be produced by intensive settlement activity. Additionally, a few anomalies were identified which suggested burnt/fired remains. However, there was no clear evidence for trackways, enclosures and other larger settlement features which could place the pits in a wider archaeological context. It was possible that the pit-type anomalies represented the only surviving detectable remains of un-enclosed settlement, but this interpretation was inconclusive
