Abstract/Summary
During December 2019 Phoenix Consulting Archaeology Ltd. carried out an archaeological trench evaluation across the proposed eastern extension to MG Recycling’s Great Billing Waste Recycling Facility, Lower Ecton Lane, Great Billing, Northamptonshire. The work was required by the Council Archareological office in order to assess the archaeological character of the Site. The Site, covering an area of c. 4.6ha, lies in an area of known archaeology, predominantly dating from the Iron Age and Roman periods. A geophysical survey had suggested the presence of a ring ditch close to the western edge of the area. Thirteen trial trenches were excavated in order to appropriately evaluate the Site. No archaeological deposits or finds were, however, encountered. The geophysical anomalies were shown to be nothing more than variations in the natural geology.
