Title Metal-Detector Finds and Early Medieval Northamptonshire: A Search for meaning
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2010

Abstract/Summary

The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the range (both by object types and geographical distribution) of early medieval metal detector finds in the county of Northamptonshire, primarily those recorded in the Portable Antiquities Scheme. The distribution of finds and the object types will be compared to those in the counties of Lincolnshire and Norfolk where detailed studies have already been undertaken. Data will also be drawn from other sources such as Northamptonshire’s Sites and Monuments Records which are still to be put online. This new data will be used to test the existing arguments surrounding the origins of the county.
