Abstract/Summary

This report details the results of an archaeological strip, map and sample excavation carried out by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) at Stratford Farm, Main Street, Marston Trussell, Northamptonshire, (NGR: SP 6914585965). The work was undertakent in February 2022 on behalf of De Montford International Printers Ltd. This initial phase of work was in advance of work to create storage areas/parking bays and is part of a larger scheme. The site lies to the west of Market Harborough, on the north side of the village of Marston Trussell; the proposed site is directly adjacent and to the west of a Scheduled Monument that comprises part of the shrunken medieval village.Previous work in the vicinity has found evidence of Saxon and medieval activity. This includes excavation to the east that identified Saxon and medieval features within the Scheduled Monument. No archaeological features were identified, and no finds were recovered. The ground was reduced by up to 0.6m but this only consisted of topsoil, subsoil and natural clays with a small amount of made ground to the west of the site from previous landscaping and road building.
