Title | Pitsford Quarry Phase 2, Moulton Road, Pitsford, Northamptonshire: Archaeological Evaluation |
Author/Originator | J Hargreaves and J Fish |
Date/Year | 2023 |
Abstract/Summary
The twelve-trench evaluation identified two concentrations of archaeological features. In the north-west of site an enclosure ditch previously recorded by geophysical survey was shown to date to the later Iron Age, and was accompanied by several pits. In the south-east of the site were ditches and pits which were not recorded by the geophysical survey. The majority of features observed could not be dated due to a lack of recovered material culture; however, a small number contained possible Iron Age pottery and it is likely that all could be of this period. They appear to represent a similar sort of site to the Iron Age features recorded in previous work at the quarry just to the west.
