Abstract/Summary
In February 2022, Archaeology England Ltd was commissioned by Heritage Archaeology Ltd to carry out an Archaeological Observation, Investigation, Recording and Publication (OIRAP) on the land off Church Way, Guilsborough, Northamptonshire NN6 8QF centred on NGR SP 67586 72855 - Planning Reference is WND/2021/0093. The development area is located within an archaeologically sensitive area. The former grounds of Guilsborough Hall are adjacent to the site to the west. Furthermore, the remains of an Iron Age univallate hillfort are located within the estate grounds running on a northeast to southwest direction. This feature as well as others – e.g. the proposed location of the Knights Hospitallers Camera – could encroach into the site. The OIRAP took place on the 23rd and 24th of November 2023. It monitored all groundworks associated with the construction of the footings for the proposed dwelling. No finds, features or deposits of archaeological significance were revealed during the course of the OIRAP. The work was carried out according to the Standard and Guidance of Archaeological Watching Briefs (CIfA 2020).
