Abstract/Summary

The MVRG archive is the result of over 35 years' archaeological and historical research, carried out by Professor MW Beresford and JG Hurst and other members of the group. The archive contains individual reference cards and files for over 3000 sites, held in alphabetical order under pre-1974 county, and consists of excavation reports, watching briefs, field notes and photographs, earthwork surveys and extracts from documentary sources. There is also a large collection of aerial photographs. The MVRG Index is now computerised and the database forms a guide both to the archive and to the sites. The map and measured survey archive is recorded as a child collection and items are cross-referenced to monuments. The archive is stored in S25 and the card index units are available in S23. The archive includes excavation material for the following sites: Somerby DMV, Lincolnshire; Wythemail DMV, Northamptonshire; Westbury Moat, Hertfordshire; and Milton Manor, Hampshire. A further acquisition includes lantern slides relating to excavations at Wharram Percy and general DMV aerial photography.Condition : SATISFACTORY
