Abstract/Summary

In March 2014, Absolute Archaeology was commissioned by William Willoughby (Estates) Ltd (the Client), to carry out an archaeological desk-based assessment (DBA) on land at The Hunters, Buckingham Road, Deanshanger. This DBA examined existing evidence from within the Study Area. Although there are no recorded archaeological assets on the Project Site, Later Prehistoric, Roman and Medieval activity exists within close proximity. This includes a postulated Roman road which appears to run north south 100m to the east of the site. Evidence suggests that there has been moderate disturbance during the history of the Project Site which is likely to include truncation from Medieval ploughing and the levelling of the site in the Post Medieval period to form a car park. However, the likelihood of survival of subsurface archaeological material is considered medium, although it is estimated that any preserved features will be significantly truncated. It is recommended that a pre determination evaluation be carried out in order to determine the presence and significance of archaeological remains in the vicinity of the Project Site.
