Abstract/Summary

A programme of historic building recording (Level 2) was undertaken ahead of conversion work being carried out on outbuildings at The Royal Oak, Eydon, Northamptonshire.Three buildings were recorded; a stone-built 19th-century clubhouse which was rebuilt after a fire in 1893, a stone and brick post-1893 stable block attached to the club house and a 20th-century garage/store attached to the east end of the stable block. The buildings had all changed in use since their construction. The former Foresters clubhouse had latterly become a ‘Smoking Room’ with toilets added in the north part of the building. The stables retained tethering rings on their south wall but no evidence of stalls and most recently have been used for storage. The most recent building is the concrete block and brick lean-to attached to the east end of the stable range, probably built as a garage but now used to store picnic tables etc
